Mark
Van Bergh

Although
formally educated as an attorney, Mark has been actively photographing
since high school. Through the years, he has developed his unique style
by combining mostly self-taught technical skills with his personal vision.
Mark has been active in different areas of photography, including people,
nature, and wildlife.
While his general approach to photography is photojournalistic, his
photographs are more than just straightforward, documentary pictures
that show the relationship of the subject to its surroundings at any
given time. They reflect Mark’s personal interpretation of events.
When
photographing a wedding, Mark uses a similar approach. Most of the photographs
are un-posed, taken in reaction to the day’s events as they unfold.
In Mark’s eyes, the real story of a wedding is shown through strong
candid photographs of people and their spontaneous reactions to events,
and photographs of the details that distinguish the personalities of
the couple.
In
addition to photographing numerous Washington, D.C. area weddings and
Bar/Bat Mitzvahs over the past ten years, Mark’s photographic
interests include a passion for nature photography, including landscapes
and wildlife. Mark’s photographic pursuits have taken him throughout
the United States, including many of our National Parks and wildlife
refuges, to Europe, and the sub-Sahara African nations of Botswana,
Kenya, Namibia, South Africa and Tanzania. Mark sells prints of his
photographs, and has had photographs displayed at several venues in
the Washington, D.C. area. A number of Mark’s photographs appear
in the coffee-table book Focus on Africa: Wildlife, Conservation and
Man.
